Alpine plants refers to a group of plants that grow at high altitude (alpine regions) typically above the tree line. Such plants often like a well drained, sunny spot and will thrive in poorer soils. Whilst often thought of as small plants, alpines can vary in size and growth habit from the slow growing saxifrage to much more vigorous plants such as mossy phloxs and erodiums.
